Elementary Sign Language (K-6)

Course Description:

Welcome to Elementary American Sign Language (ASL) at Gracious Me Academy, where students in grades K-6 begin their exciting journey into the beautiful visual language of ASL and Deaf culture. Our ASL program is designed to introduce young learners to basic communication skills and cultural understanding through interactive and engaging activities.

In our Elementary ASL course, students will:

• Learn Basic Vocabulary and Phrases: Acquire essential ASL signs and phrases for everyday use, including greetings, numbers, colors, and simple sentences.
• Develop Receptive and Expressive Skills: Practice understanding and producing signs through interactive exercises, stories, and conversations with peers.
• Explore Deaf Culture: Discover various traditions, customs, and communication norms of the Deaf community to gain a broader understanding of this unique culture.
• Engage in Fun Activities: Participate in games, stories, and crafts that make learning ASL enjoyable and memorable, fostering visual readiness.

By the end of the course, students at Gracious Me Academy will have developed a basic proficiency in ASL, gained confidence in using the language, and fostered an appreciation for Deaf culture. Our goal is to create a lively and supportive environment where every child feels excited to learn and explore new linguistic and cultural horizons.
